It’s your move, Wordfreak.
A contemporary tale set in the lives of protagonists Aryan Chawla, the Wordfreak and Alisha Menon, Worddiva.

Aryan is your 25-year old, rich handsome eco-friendly architect that can sweep any woman off her feet, while Alisha Menon is a 28-year old smart, witty divorce lawyer that abhors fashion. They meet over an online game of Scrabble and hit it off almost instantly. After months of having fun & flirtatious chats, they set up a blind date and are blown off as it turns out better than expected.

What ensues further is an idyll of their romantic life. Alisha seems to be commitment-phobic while Aryan has clearly made his choice. Family, friends and well-wishers intervene to make their love-life successful. For Aryan, his Uncle Sam and Nani are his staunch supporters as for Alisha; it’s her mother, her chirpy fashionable friend Diya and her Boss MT.  A trip to Aryan’s farmhouse brings a lot of passion and romance to the fore-front (yes, steamy sex!). To cut the story short, life seems to be PERFECT for the duo until tension begins.

Well like is said- “All that glitters is not gold.”
There are secrets from the past, which Aryan finds hard to face. An argument and outburst leads to discovering Aryan’s past. Aryan faces a lot of emotional dilemma and his family life is not as simple as it seems. Alisha goes in search of Aryan and figures out the skeletons in the closet and tries to sort out his life. The second half is truly engaging & fast-paced. I was totally kept waiting for more.

The characters in the book have been etched out well. For most part, I love Alisha’s character. Smart, strong & practical. Her friend Diya is the quintessential chirpy fashion conscious darling who’s always there for a friend. Alisha’s mother is an emotional support and level-headed lady. Vallima’s character reminds me of my own grandmother.

On the other hand, Aryan is well CHARMING! His Uncle Sam is that one man who’d do anything to help your life. His Nani is the sweet lady who understands his feelings but says nothing. All in all, the characters are relatable and not too built up.

I would not call this book a bestseller. Rather, this is something you might want to read on a road trip. A one-time read. Yes. I say that because the first part totally wanted me to see some development or change apart from the constant love-making. And the end, though well-thought could have been worked out better. It almost felt like a brilliant end had a drab effect where all you can manage is- THAT WAS IT? But yes, on the plus side, the language is amazing. Rather flawless. Also Falguni Kothari must be appreciated for bringing out the imaginations alive and managing to keep the audience awake with all the mush and witty dialogues.

All in all, she’s done a decent job with the book!

I would give this book a- 2.5/5

  2. Well the first part is too lovey-dovey with the characters being noting less than beautiful and elegant. A lot of romance. But the second part is about finding out secrets from Aryan's past. Dealing with it. But overall it's just okay!
